Ignite Parent FAQ

What is the difference between MSM Ignite and HSM Ignite?

MSM stands for middle school ministry. HSM stands for High School Ministry. MSM Ignite is for grades 6-8. HSM Ignite is for grades 9-12. While overlap occasionally occurs between the ministries, we offer separate programs for both groups.

Does Ignite have a weekly gathering?

YES! Both our HSM and MSM groups meet at Hope Church. HSM students meet on SUNDAY evenings 6:30 - 7:50 p.m. MSM students gather on Wednesday evenings 6:30 – 7:50 p.m. Both groups meet in The Garage, which is found in the new Ministry Center.

What does a typical Ignite gathering look like?

Although we try to make each Ignite gathering different by adding various elements of creativity, each night generally includes the following components: fun, worship, teaching, and small group discussion. In a creative way, we incorporate biblical truth into fun, worship, and teaching, while growing together through relationships with one another!

What is the best way for me, as a parent/guardian, to know what’s happening at Ignite?

The website is an extremely useful tool in communicating information. The youth website is www.hcignited.org.

We also send out weekly email updates telling you what’s coming up for Ignite. Sign up to receive this newsletter by visiting our website. Click on the link under the Contact Us tab, titled “Ignite Email Update Sign Up.” Then, complete the form.

You can also receive text alerts with up-to-date information. HSM parents can text @hsignite to 81010, and MSM parents can text @msignite to 81010.

What are TRASH nights?

Throughout the summer, we occasionally will meet at different locations. TRASH stands for Teens Relaxing At Someone’s House. People who are a part of the Hope Church family have opened their homes for an evening for us to gather. Addresses of homes and updates will be sent out via email updates, but won’t be made available online.

How do I register my student for a special Ignite event?

Certain events at Ignite require that the students register in advance. Some of events we do include transportation, overnight stays, and other contingencies that require us to have knowledge that your student is participating. Registration for these types of events is all completed online. Event registration and information can be found by going on our youth website, www.hcignited.org, or following the registration links sent through our email updates. For each event, we give you a step-by-step process to ensure your child is registered. Payments for these are done through the Hope Church office.

What paperwork is required for my student to be involved?

We have an annual Ignite Release Form for our parents to fill out for each of their children. This form helps cover permission needed for transportation, medical assistance, photography, etc. Each annual form covers your child’s participation in Ignite functions for the school year represented. The form can be found on our webpage, under the Forms menu item.

Who is responsible for my students at Ignite functions?

Each of our Ignite functions are facilitated and run with the help of our fabulous Ignite Volunteer Team. I am so grateful for the hours that our youth volunteers put into building positive healthy relationships with your children. Each of our volunteers is background checked and interviewed in order to serve in this ministry. I encourage you to pop in and chat with our volunteers regularly upon drop-off and pick-up.

What kinds of events do you organize outside the regular Ignite gatherings?

Because we want to grow in our faith, connect with others, serve the body, and impact the world, our Ignite program is designed in a way for us to live out that vision. The Ignite program involves outreach events, service projects, retreats, mission trips, small groups, 1 on 1 mentoring, and more.

As a parent, how can I be involved?

The role of the parent is the greatest influence in a child’s life. We want to join hands with you in voicing truth to your children. A few ways you can help the ministry is by opening your home to host students, being willing to help in transportation for events, connecting with and encouraging other parents, helping to provide food for our concession stand, and providing childcare for our HSM Volunteer Leaders. We are always finding new opportunities for parent involvement. If you are interested in serving in one of these ways, please contact Ashlee Menear at assistant@hopebrunswick.org.

Does Ignite offer anything for parents?

Ignite has a Parent-Leader Breakfast biannually to help us get connected. This is an awesome opportunity for us to get to know you and your children a little better. It also gives you the opportunity to get to know the leaders of Ignite, including volunteers who are interacting with your children regularly. Occasionally, we have parent gatherings following each of our weekend services to keep you informed of future opportunities. Throughout the year, we offer various seminars, parent get-togethers, and family opportunities. Here are a few things we have done in the past: Father-Daughter Date Night; Helping Hurting Teens Seminar, Parent Dip-Off (bring your own appetizer dip), etc.
